Shining Through

I’m on the highway, blinded by sun
I’m driving, but I don’t know where
I think I’ve been running for years
Always willing to swallow despair
But this time I won’t be deterred
No need to exit, the signs are clear
The road I’m on isn’t running from anything
It’s running to right now right here

I see the light shining through

Another headline, another day
Things can’t get worse but they always do
Politicians’ hypocrisy
Growing in ways creative and new
On some days I cry, on others I seethe
But lately I have visions of what’s coming in
The hate falls away
And no one has to lose for someone to win

I see the light shining through

A central place we all meet again
Don’t look to heaven, we aren’t there
There’s so much for us to do right here
Without adding someone else’s fear
The eye turns inward, it turns away
The seeds fall silent on the fertile ground
Around you, within you
Hope and strength waiting to be found

I see the light shining though
I see the light shining through
